TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Inez Rovegno, professor of kinesiology in The University of Alabama’s College of Education, was recently inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
She is the first faculty member at The University of Alabama to receive this honor.
The American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education is an honorary
organization composed of Fellows who have made significant contributions to the fields of kinesiology and physical education. The Academy includes the following fields: exercise physiology and epidemiology, exercise psychology, biomechanics, sociology and psychology of sport, motor control, motor development and motor learning, and pedagogy. The constitution of the Academy limits its membership to 150 active fellows.
A member of the UA faculty since 1993, Rovegno’s research has focused on constructivist and situated learning and teaching and research on physical education teacher education. She has recently been published in the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, Studies in the Philosophy of Education: An International Journal, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, Action in Teacher Education, and Teaching Elementary Physical Education.
Her awards and honors include the 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award from UNC-Greensboro; the 2001 Senior Scholar Lecture for the Research on Learning and Instruction from the Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association; and the 1992-1993 Exemplary Research Award from the American Educational Research Association’s Special Interest Group for Research on Learning and Instruction in Physical Education.
She also is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education and the Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy journal.
