TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Student Government Association will be hosting the Capstone Market holiday shopping event Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom.
The student-run event will feature a variety of area businesses from all over town to sell unusual gift products in a marketplace atmosphere with shopping, food, holiday music, door prizes and even photos with Santa.
All the proceeds from this event will go to the SGA scholarship fund to help University students with financial need.
“Last year we raised a little over $5,000 and we plan to double that this year,” said Jessica Juliano, UA’s SGA fund-raising committee chair. “It’s shopping on campus, why wouldn’t students come? If anything, just come and browse around because this event is for such a great cause and it is going to help put needy college students through school,” Juliano said.
There will be a wide variety of vendors and shoppers will be able to find things such as ornaments, baked goods, jewelry, athletic shoes and women’s and men’s apparel.
A silent auction will be set up at the market as well with the highest bidders taking home a flat screen television and an MP3 player.
“There will be something for everyone,” Juliano said.
The entrance fee to the Capstone Market is $3. Tickets will be available at the door and in advance at the UA Crossroads Community Center in Ferguson Center. All shoppers will be eligible for door prizes including Mellow Mushroom and Mug Shot gift certificates, T-shirts and more.
