TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance presents Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre Fall Concert 2006, Oct. 24-27 in the Morgan Auditorium in the UA Theatre District.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24-26, with a special showing at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 for homecoming. Tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for UA faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall between noon and 5 p.m., or by calling 205/348-3400.
The Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre is the pre-professional company in residence founded by Cornelius Carter, professor of dance, to prepare and enrich dance students for the diverse demands of a professional career.
“Talent like these student dancers have is rare,” said Carter, “and we are more than fortunate to have them here, training with us, and sharing their educational experience with our audiences.”
The performance will include acts from the famous romantic ballet, “Giselle” (Act II), the brilliantly choreographed modern work, “Dance Children,” and the exuberant jazz number “Ramalama.”
The department of theatre and dance is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
