Blackburn Institute Hosts National Issues Forum at UA Oct. 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Blackburn Institute will host a National Issues Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Forum.

Students will discuss and debate issues on the theme “Democracy’s Challenge: Reclaiming the Public’s Role.” All UA students are invited to attend and participate in a campuswide discussion.

The National Issues Forum is a nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues. The NIF is based on the notion that people need to come together to reason and talk – to deliberate about common problems. The forums are an opportunity for people to come together to deliberate and to make choices with others about ways to approach difficult issues.

The Blackburn Institute develops a network of student leaders at UA, the Blackburn Fellows, who have a clear understanding of the challenges that face the state. The Blackburn Fellows explore issues and identify strategic actions that will improve the quality of life for our state and nation.
