TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – William Moss, owner of Moss Enterprises Inc. and designer of the Talladega Superspeedway, will address students, faculty and staff Thursday, Sept. 14, as part of the College of Engineering’s Dean’s Leadership Series: “So, You Want to be a CEO,” which brings prominent business leaders to The University of Alabama to lecture and meet with students.

Moss’ lecture begins at 3:30 p.m. in Shelby Hall, room 151. It is open to the public.

Moss is an authority on designing roads for stock car racing and designed the Talladega Superspeedway. Moss Enterprises studies proposed racetracks around the country and has completed several successful racetrack projects in recent years, including the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Kentucky Speedway.

Moss received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The University of Alabama in 1959. In 1994, he was honored as a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by UA’s College of Engineering. He was inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame in 2001, and he will be inducted as an Honorary Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers in October. “Moss is an engineering innovator and a business leader, and this lecture series will inspire our students to their future possibilities in engineering and business,” said Dr. Charles L. Karr, dean of the College of Engineering.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering has about 1,900 students and more than 95 faculty. It has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
