TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Museum of Natural History and The University of Alabama Arboretum will host the annual St. Valentine’s Day gourmet dinner featuring special music and dancing Feb. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Smith Hall, located on 6th Avenue on the UA campus.
Talented harpist Abigail Grant will start the evening off with romantic tunes during the social gathering and locally known musicians with The George Winter Band will provide musical entertainment for listening and dancing during and after the dinner. A gourmet meal prepared by Chef Neil Ravenna promises to blend a fusion of southern tastes with opulent cuisine.
Dinner will be served in historic Smith Hall’s Grand Gallery of ornate Corinthian columns below a majestic glass roof. The Gallery, one of the most beautifully proportioned interiors on the UA campus – perhaps in Alabama, houses exhibits of fossils, rocks and minerals from the Coal Age, Dinosaur Age, and Ice Age.
The cost is $55 per person and all proceeds benefit the Alabama Museum of Natural History and the Arboretum. Registration is open through Feb. 9, telephone 205/348-7551 or e-mail caverett@aalan.ua.edu. Seating is limited. Tables for two available upon request.
Regular operating hours for the UA’s Museum of Natural History are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children and seniors. Operating hours for the UA’s Arboretum are 7:30 a.m. until sunset, seven days a week, and admission is free.
