Area Students, Teachers Join in UA Research

mrsec_72A team of students and teachers conducted scientific research at The University of Alabama Materials Research Science and Engineering Center this summer. The team consisted of (L-R) Andy Nix of Bryant High School, Laura Beth Tackett of Tuscaloosa County High School, Janis Mabry, a chemistry teacher from Tuscaloosa County High School, Sarah Nikles of Bryant High School, and Dr. David Nikles, UA professor of chemistry. They conducted research on the synthesis and application of magnetic nanoparticles. The program received funding from the National Science Foundation and was developed by Dr. Greg Thompson, UA assistant professor of metallurgical and materials engineering.
