Dinoff Memorial Lecture at UA to Feature Expert in Emotional Problems

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Michael Vasey, associate professor of psychology and director of the Anxiety and Stress Disorders Clinic at the Ohio State University, will be the guest speaker for the annual Michael Dinoff Memorial Lecture on The University of Alabama campus Friday, April 16, 2004.

The topic will be “Attentional Bias and Attentional Control in Emotional Disorders Across the Lifespan.” The public lecture begins at 7 p.m. in room 208 Gordon Palmer Hall.

Vasey received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Penn State University in 1990. He is the author of nearly 50 publications on a variety of topics. Although originally trained as a child clinical psychologist, in recent years he has expanded his research to encompass much of the lifespan, ranging from middle childhood to older adulthood. His current research focuses primarily on cognitive factors in a wide range of emotional problems including anxiety, depression, reactive aggression, and psychopathy.

In particular, his work emphasizes attentional biases and attentional control in the processing of emotionally negative information and the regulation of emotional reactivity.

The Michael Dinoff Memorial Lecture is sponsored by the UA department of psychology, the College of Arts and Sciences and UA in memory of Dr. Michael Dinoff, who was a professor of psychology and director of UA’s Psychological Clinic from 1963 until his death in 1982.
