UA Recreation Sponsors Wheels Across the Quad

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s University Recreation along with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of West Alabama is sponsoring the 3rd annual Wheels Across the Quad on Saturday, April 19.

The event will at begin 7:30 a.m. on UA’s Quad with the First Federal Bank Criterium Cycling Races. These races will feature all levels of riders and will finish at 11:30 a.m. A $25 entry fee, $30 on the day of the event, is required to participate. First Federal Bank has donated $3,000 worth of prize money to be given to the winners. A basic entry form is available on the Web site (http://urec.sa.ua.edu) and can be printed and submitted to the department or brought on the day of the event. For more information contact Miles Eddins at miles_eddins@hotmail.com.

Family carnival events, food vendors, music, kids’ activities and various wheeled races will take place on the quad from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The activities will close with the Great Bama Bed Race open to all groups, organizations and anyone wishing to place a team in this event. Teams consist of five people-one person remains in the bed while the other four push. Other than the cycling races and food, all Wheels Across the Quad events are free.

The majority of the event’s proceeds will benefit Big Brother and Big Sisters of West Alabama — $20 out of every $25 raised will go directly to their programs. The event will raise awareness of Big Brothers and Big Sisters and its services. The organization always needs more matches for big brothers and sisters.
