UA Students Organize All Night Walk for Cancer Cure

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama Students United for a Cure will sponsor Relay for Life, an all night walk to promote cancer awareness and cancer research, from 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21, until 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 22. The event will be held on the UA Quad and will benefit the American Cancer Society.

“It is a great opportunity for community service within an organization, and it greatly helps us and the American Cancer Society recognize survivors of cancer, remember those who have lost the battle to cancer, and promote the continuous fight to raise money for research,” Mary Anne Taylor of UA Students United for a Cure said.

Some 25 teams of University participants are currently scheduled to take part in the relay. Each team usually has between 8-10 members and they are responsible for fund raising for the event.

The teams will collect money until March 20, and the amount raised will be announced on March 21; however, donations will also be accepted during the relay. The goal for this year is $22,000.
