UA and Auburn Compete in Annual Food Fight

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The West Alabama Food Bank will host a press conference for the 2002 “Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger” food drive competition that The University of Alabama competes in each year.

The media event will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the food bank, located at 1605 23rd Ave. in Tuscaloosa.

A number of UA athletes will be present for photos and interviews. The UA student organizers will also be present.

Students and community members may drop off cans at the UA collection truck parked in the Ferguson Plaza.

Over the past nine years, UA and Auburn students have collected over 323,000 pounds of food for West Alabama and East Alabama food banks during this competition. Last year, Auburn won the competition by more than 16,000 pounds. Auburn collected 43,168 and UA collected 26,891 pounds.

The food fight ends on Thursday, Nov. 21. The West Alabama Food Bank will announce the winning University and winning UA organization on Friday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. Results also will be announced at Bryant-Denny Stadium during the Alabama-Auburn football game.
