UA Alum Named President of Sigrid Olsen

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama graduate, Becky Blair, was named president of Sigrid Olsen women’s clothing company in New York this summer.

Blair, a 1978 alumna of the UA College of Human and Environmental Sciences (HES), earned her bachelor’s degree in fashion retailing.

As president, Blair will be responsible for the strategy, growth and development of Sigrid Olsen brand, part of Liz Claiborne Inc. Blair rejoins Liz Claiborne Inc. after serving as vice president of sales for Karen Kane Inc. Her first position at Liz Claiborne was vice president of both Collection and Lizsport.

Blair began her professional career as a buyer for Goldsmith’s division of Federated. She then moved to Bernard Chaus Inc. where she was vice president of sales for Chaus Sport.

Blair continues to keep in contact with the professors in HES, offering assistance with internships and study tours of New York City.

“Ms. Blair is a wonderful alum to work with, especially for our annual Interim Term study tour of New York City,” said Dr. Brecca Farr, UA assistant professor of fashion retailing.

The UA College of Human and Environmental Sciences was established in 1917. It is well known for its comprehensive approach to higher education. Students seeking degrees in professional service industries are well served by its academic programs, classroom instruction, real-world experience and mentoring by seasoned faculty.

The College offers degree programs for careers in apparel and textiles, athletic training, consumer sciences, early childhood development, financial planning and counseling, food and nutrition, family and consumer science education, health studies, human development and family studies, and interior design.
