TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Student Association of Geographers is presenting a lecture by Dr. Luoheng Han on “Remote Sensing and its Applications,” Friday, April 5, at 1 p.m. in 118 Farrah Hall.
Han, a geography professor at UA, said remote sensing, an information technology developed during the last three decades, acquires information about Earth using satellite and airborne sensors. Remote sensing provides a synoptic view of Earth unmatchable by other means.
“Remote sensing has been recognized as one of the most effective technologies in global studies,” Han said. “The applications of remote sensing can range from detecting urban sprawl to monitoring coastal water quality, from global vegetation mapping to assisting airport management,” he explained.
Han’s lecture is part of the UA Student Association of Geographer’s 2001-2002 lecture series. The even is free and open to the public.
