TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Peter L. Strauss, Betts Professor of Law at Columbia University, will deliver the Daniel J. Meador Lecture on Friday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at the University of Alabama School of Law’s Moot Courtroom.
Strauss, a 1964 graduate of Yale Law School, served as clerk to Chief Judge David Bazelon, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and to Justice William J. Brennan Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court. He was assistant to the solicitor general of the United States from 1968 to 1971. In 1971, he joined the faculty of Columbia University School of Law. In 1975, he took leave to serve as general counsel of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and from 1992 to 1993, Strauss chaired the Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice of the American Bar Association.
Strauss has written numerous publications: “An Introduction to Administrative Justice in the United States,” “Gellhorn and Byse’s Administrative Law: Cases and Comments” and “Administrative Law Problems.”
The Meador Lecture was established in 1994 to honor Daniel J. Meador, a member of the Alabama law class of 1951 and former professor and law dean at the University of Alabama School of Law. Meador is professor emeritus at the University of Virginia School of Law.
