UA Plans Iron Bowl Festivities

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — On Nov. 18, the Iron Bowl will be played in Tuscaloosa for the first time since the early 1900s.

To mark the occasion, The University of Alabama has planned numerous events during Iron Bowl Week, including firework and a parade.

The first-ever Iron Bowl Parade will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. The parade will begin on the east end of University Boulevard, near Moody Music Building. It will continue through the middle of campus to the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa.

At 8 p.m., immediately after the Iron Bowl Parade, the UA Student Government Association and MediaSouth will sponsor a fireworks show. The fireworks can be best viewed from downtown Tuscaloosa.

On Friday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m., the Tuscaloosa County Chapter of the Alabama Alumni Association will host a pep rally and Crimson Tide block party on the “Strip.” The block party master-of-ceremonies will be former Tide player Kenny Stabler. Appearances by the UA football team, the Million Dollar Band, UA Athletic Director Mal Moore, the cheerleaders and Big Al are scheduled. Chevy Six, sponsored by Coca-Cola, will perform during the block party.

On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, the University will kick off the Inaugural Iron Bowl Festival, a special free event on the Quad.

The Festival will include over 100 exhibits, food and beverages, activities for families, prizes and games geared for fans of all ages. Appearances by Alabama football legends are also planned. On Saturday, visitors who do not have Alabama-Auburn tickets will be able to watch the game on a huge, state-of-the-art video screen in the festival area for free.

The 2000 Iron Bowl will kick-off at 2:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
