TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Law will welcome two distinguished visitors during the 2000 fall semester.
Marcus Desax, who earned his master’s degree in comparative law at UA in 1977, will return to the UA Law School as Distinguished Practitioner-in-Residence Oct. 2-6. Luke C. Harris, professor of American politics and constitutional law at Vassar College in New York, will lecture at the UA Law School as Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence Oct. 15-9.
Desax is currently a partner in the Swiss law firm of Pestalozzi Gmuer & Patry. He is also president of the Swiss Tax Law Association and second vice president and member of the executive committee of the International Fiscal Association. Desax is an expert in international arbitration and taxation.
Desax earned his bachelor’s degree from the College St-Michel and his doctorate of law from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Today, the College St-Michel has a reciprocal study program with students and faculty of the UA Law School.
Harris holds a doctorate in political theory from Princeton University and is a graduate of Yale Law School.
Harris is the author of the forthcoming book “Terms of Belonging: Citizenship, Community and Constitution,” and is a former Fulbright Scholar in England. He was a co-founder of the African American Policy Forum, an organization promoting public education and activism on African American feminist issues. Harris was also co-writer and chief consultant for the 1993 documentary film “A Question of Color,” and he is co-writing the upcoming documentary film “Black Feminism.”
