Randy Easterling, safety program supervisor for The University of Alabama’s Safe State Consultation Program, has been elected president of the Alabama Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a professional association of occupational safety and health professionals.
The American Legion Alabama Boys State convention has awarded University of Alabama President Judy Bonner with its highest honor, the James V. Thompson Award. Named after the first young man elected Alabama Boys State governor, this is the first time the Thompson Award has been awarded to a woman.
Dr. Jeff Gray, professor of computer science at The University of Alabama, will lead a free, online course sponsored by Google this summer to train high-school teachers in a new computer-science course and future College Board Advanced Placement exam.
An exhibit featuring a series of photos taken in Cuba by Chip Cooper, faculty member and artist-in-residence at The University of Alabama’s Honors College, and Julio Ángel Larramendi Joa will be on display starting June 4 at the Massimiliano Massimo Institute in Rome in an exhibit titled “ Campesinos.” The exhibit is part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Vatican.
The University of Alabama’s Honors College, in partnership with the Do Good Fund, will host an opening reception for the exhibition “Eternal Moments: Photographs of the South” Friday, May 15, in Marion, as part of the 57 Miles Initiative.
