UA Sponsors Lecture on the Storied Life of Dr. Thomas Fearn

The University of Alabama department of history and Center for the Study of the South will sponsor a lecture by Olin B. King on Dr. Thomas Fearn on Friday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m., in the Henry Jacobs Reading area on the second floor of Gorgas Library. The lecture is free and open to the public.

UA’s 2006 Economic Conference Scheduled

Tim Alford, director of Alabama’s Office of Workforce Development, will be the luncheon speaker at the 2006 Economic Outlook Conference, presented by The University of Alabama’s Center for Business and Economic Research. The conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery.

UA to Host Innovation and Technology Conference for Alabama Youth Friday, Nov. 4

The Blackburn Institute and the Office of Community Affairs at The University of Alabama will host a statewide forum for Alabama youth on “Innovation and Technology: Making Choices for Alabama” Friday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Ferguson Center ballroom on campus.

UA Evolution Lectureship Series Continues With Science Educator Jim Lacefield

The second in a series of public lectures on evolution will continue at The University of Alabama with science educator Dr. Jim Lacefield. Lacefield will speak on “Using Evidence from Alabama’s Geologic Record in Support of Teaching Concepts Related to Evolution and an Ancient and Dynamic Earth” on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in 127 Biology Building Auditorium on the UA campus.

UA’s First Astronaut Will Speak at UA on Nov. 10

Col. James Kelly, who earned his Master of Science in aerospace engineering from The University of Alabama in 1996, will deliver a presentation about the recent Space Shuttle Discovery Return to Flight Mission on Nov. 10.
