Two top concerts featuring organ, chorus and instrumental performances – including a top French organist and the world premiere of a new organ work – headline the fifth annual Church Music Conference on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26 at Moody Music Building at The University of Alabama.
Richard Siken, whose poetry collection “Crush” won the 2004 Yale Series of Younger Poets prize, will be the next visitor in The University of Alabama Bankhead Reading Series. Siken will read at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa.
A bilingual lecture with Dr. Almidio Aquino, director of the Language Notebooks Project, will be held at The University of Alabama on Monday, Jan.14 in 205 Gorgas Library from 2-4 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 19, seven of the Tuscaloosa area’s most renowned choirs will perform at the 19th Annual “Realizing the Dream” concert. The event, which honors the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of The University of Alabama’s Moody Music Building.
A leading pediatrician and expert in providing services to underserved populations will offer insights into the relationship between clinical care and culture Tuesday, Jan. 29 in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 at The University of Alabama School of Medicine building. The event is free and open to the public.
