Groundbreaking for New UA Capstone College of Nursing Set for Oct. 10

The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama will host a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 10 for a new facility that will provide state-of-the-art clinical instruction for UA nursing students working to counter a national nursing shortage.

Philippine Insurance Magnate Headlines UA Insurance Day; Ambassador to Receive Humanitarian Award

Alfonso T. Yuchengco, foreign affairs advisor to the president of the Philippines and a secretary in the presidential cabinet, former Philippine ambassador to China, Japan and the United Nations and head of the Yuchhengco Group of Companies, will receive The University of Alabama Global Insurance Humanitarian Award at the Alabama Insurance Day 2008 Conference Thursday, Oct. 9.

UA College of Commerce and Blackburn Institute Host Panel on Credit Crisis

The University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration and the Blackburn Institute will host a panel discussion titled “What does the current credit crisis mean for you? Implications for the UA student body” on Monday, Oct. 13 from 7-9 p.m. in Alston Hall, Room 30. All UA students are invited to attend.

UA’s University Supply Store to Hold Fall Graduation Celebration Oct. 21-22

The University Supply Store will hold its fall 2008 University of Alabama Graduation Celebration on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 21- 22 in the Ferguson Center Heritage Ballroom from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. each day. The Graduation Celebration is designed to be a one-stop shopping and preparation venue for students who plan to graduate in December 2008. The event is also sponsored by Balfour, manufacturer of the University’s official class ring.

UA Homecoming Week to be Celebrated with Theme ‘Unified with Crimson Pride’

The University of Alabama tradition of Homecoming Week events will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26-Saturday, Nov.1 with the theme “A Tide Nation: Unified with Crimson Pride.”

Cookout to Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation Hosted by Phi Delta Theta, Chi Omega at UA

The University of Alabama chapters of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Chi Omega sorority will co-host the second annual Make-A-Wish cookout on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Phi Delta Theta house on University Boulevard.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner F.W. de Klerk to Deliver Blackburn Institute’s Nix Lecture Oct. 17 at UA

President F.W. de Klerk, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who helped bring majority rule to South Africa, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Sellers Auditorium in the Bryant Conference Center on The University of Alabama campus.
