University of Alabama students will be taking part in Chi Alpha Campus Ministry’s “Smurf Out Poverty” event on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Plaza with the goal of breaking a world record while raising money to feed families in need.
While engineers are commonly known for their problem-solving abilities, students of The University of Alabama’s College of Engineering Does Amateur Radical Theatre are taking their skills beyond the realm of math and science and applying them to theater in the howling comedy “The Big Bad Musical.”
Dr. Chris Jones, a noted mathematician, will speak on “Climate Change: Can Mathematics Help Clear the Air?” at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, in 208 Gordon Palmer Hall on The University of Alabama campus.

Dr. Shirley Brice Heath, a linguistic anthropologist and a former MacArthur Foundation fellow, will speak on “What’s Language Got to Do With It?” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Gorgas Library, room 205 at The University of Alabama.
“Headwaters: A Journey on Alabama Rivers,” a new book from The University of Alabama Press presenting one photographer’s exploration of Alabama’s waterways, will be the subject of a talk, signing and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Smith Hall on The University of Alabama campus.
The University of Alabama’s Creative Campus Initiative will host Foster Auditorium Awareness Week April 6-10 on the UA campus. The week is planned as a response to ongoing conversation about Foster and the variety of historically significant cultural events that have taken place there.

Dr. Breena Holland, assistant professor of political science at Lehigh University, will speak on “Environmental Policy and the Problem of Justice” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Biology Auditorium at The University of Alabama.
The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center will sponsor its annual Take Back the Night march to support the end of violence against women on Tuesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. at the Ferguson Center Plaza.
