In honor of Constitution Day, The University of Alabama will host a student debate Friday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theater on “Is the Defense of Marriage Act Constitutional?”
Bobby Bowden, long-time head football coach at Florida State University, will be at the Paul W. Bryant Museum on The University of Alabama campus Saturday, Sept. 11, from 2-4 p.m. to sign copies of his recently released book, “Called to Coach: Reflections on Life, Faith and Football.”
A special showcase will take place at The University of Alabama on Wednesday, Sept. 15, featuring the culture of India. The two scheduled events, a yoga workshop and a dance performance, are free and open to the UA and Tuscaloosa communities.
The University of Alabama National Alumni Association Tuscaloosa County Chapter will host its annual riverboat cruise “Rolling on the River with the Tide!” on Sept. 10 and Oct. 1 to benefit the chapter’s scholarship fund.
Lisa Elizondo, a University of Alabama junior and McNair Scholar who spent her summer collecting oral histories of Chicano-rights activists, will present “Off the Border: Mexican-Americans in Washington State” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in 125 ten Hoor on the UA campus.
“Screwtape,” a play by James Forsyth based on C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters,” will be presented Monday, Sept. 20, through Sunday, Sept. 26 in the Allen Bales Theatre on The University of Alabama campus.
Dr. Michael Huemer, associate professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado, will speak Sept. 16 at The University of Alabama on “Is There a Right to Immigrate?” at 7:30 p.m. in room 205 of Smith Hall.
The Student Government Associations at The University of Alabama and Auburn University and the League of Women Voters of Alabama will host gubernatorial debates on the UA and AU campuses this fall.
The first debate will be from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16 in the Moody Music Concert Hall on the UA campus.
Jeffrey A. Levitetz, founder and chair of Purity Wholesale Grocers Inc. and an alumnus of The University of Alabama, will present the Helen Crow Mills and John Carroll Mills Lecture Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. in room 328 of Lloyd Hall on the UA campus.
The University of Alabama Community Service Center will host its annual Volunteer Expo on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Ferguson Center, second floor, to link nonprofit organizations with students.
