The University of Alabama Graduate School will host the third annual Three Minute Thesis competition, which challenges graduate students to demonstrate their research and presentation skills concisely for cash prizes and travel grants.

UA Student Receives Killam Fellowship for Study in Canada

Fulbright Canada has awarded Jordan Sandy, a student at The University of Alabama, a Killam Fellowship to study at The University of British Columbia during the 2015-2016 academic year. Sandy, a Chicago native who is double majoring in economics and English, is a University Fellow and has held membership in the Lambda Sigma Academic Honor Society. He has interned with Creative Campus and worked with SaveFirst, a free tax preparation service for low-income families.

UA Student Receives Award for Focus on International Issues

Brandon Hooks, president of the Alabama International Relations Club at The University of Alabama, was recently presented with the UNA-USA Greater Birmingham Chapter Campus Leadership Award at the United Nations 70th anniversary banquet in Birmingham.

UA Earns Emergency Management Accreditation

The Emergency Management Accreditation Program has awarded The University of Alabama accreditation for its emergency preparedness and response activities.

UA Music Student’s Composition to be Performed at Carnegie Hall

A composition by Tyler Grant, a student in The University of Alabama’s School of Music, has been selected to be showcased at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April. “Panoramic Landscapes” will be performed by the Scarsdale, New York, High School wind ensemble under the direction of Jason Noble. It is Grant’s first work to be played at Carnegie Hall.

Crowe-White Receives CHES Research Award

Dr. Kristi Crowe-White, assistant professor in The University of Alabama’s College of Human and Environmental Sciences, has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the HES Leadership Board Excellence in Scholarly Research Award.

Head of UA Computer Science Named Fellow by Accreditation Board

A University of Alabama professor was recognized as a Fellow of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, the lead society for accreditation of degree programs in computer science, information systems, software engineering and information technology. Dr. David Cordes, head of the department of computer science and director of the Freshman Engineering Program, received the award at the annual meeting of the Computer Accreditation Commission of ABET in July.
