“To Kill a Mockingbird” Essay Contest Winners Recognized at UA

Winners of The University of Alabama’s eighth annual “To Kill a Mockingbird” Essay Contest were recently honored on campus with a luncheon awards ceremony and reception with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and UA faculty member Rick Bragg.

UA Cason Award to Honor Journalist and Novelist Roy Hoffman

Roy Hoffman, an acclaimed novelist and journalist, will receive the 2009 Clarence Cason Award in Nonfiction Writing from The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences Thursday, March 5 at a dinner in his honor at the Hotel Capstone.

Dean’s List Students Named at UA

A total of 5,477 students enrolled during the fall 2008 semester at The University of Alabama made the Dean’s List with academic records of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), or the President’s List with academic records of 4.0 (all As).

Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame to Hold 2009 Ceremony

The state of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame will induct seven individuals and honor one project during a Feb. 21 ceremony at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center in Auburn.

UA Ranks 11th in Enrollment of National Merit Scholars

The University of Alabama continues to attract some of the nation’s most talented students, ranking 11th among the nation’s 629 public universities in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars for 2008-2009 and 28th among the more than 2,400 public and private universities nationwide. UA’s ranking is up from last year when the University ranked 12th among public universities and 30th overall.

UA Graduate School’s Prestigious CGS/Peterson’s Award will be Used to Mentor, Support Students

UA Engineering Awarded Grant to Expand Science and Math in Sumter County Schools

The University of Alabama College of Engineering has landed a $2.98 million grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Graduate Education to establish a new five-year program for two high schools and four middle schools in Sumter County.
