Eliza and Hugh Culverhouse Jr. have made a gift of $1 million to the Culverhouse College of Commerce at The University of Alabama to be used for scholarships to defray student debt. The college is named for Culverhouse’s father.

UA Community Service Center Seeks Nonprofit Partners for Volunteer Service Event

The University of Alabama Community Service Center seeks community partners for the 2013 Ripple Effect event, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Aug. 20. Ripple Effect is an annual freshman volunteer day that allows new and returning students to become acquainted with the Tuscaloosa community through service projects.

Brewbaker Named Interim Dean of UA School of Law

William Brewbaker has been named interim dean of The University of Alabama School of Law. Brewbaker, the William Alfred Rose Professor of Law, assumed his new duties July 1, and he will continue in the interim position until a permanent dean is hired.

Carl Pinkert Named UA Vice President for Research

Dr. Carl A. Pinkert has been named vice president for research at The University of Alabama. Pinkert comes to UA from Auburn University where he has served as associate vice president for research since 2009. The appointment is effective Nov. 1.
