The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences 2016 Holle Awards for creativity in communication honored five students with a total of $50,000 in cash prizes.
The Alabama winners of the 23rd Letters About Literature competition have been selected and will be announced at a ceremony held in their honor at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at The University of Alabama’s Gorgas Library, room 205.
Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12, according to read.gov. Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write a letter to the author about how the work impacted their lives. The letters are divided into three levels and are judged by each state affiliate for the Center of the Book.
Two graduating seniors at The University of Alabama have accepted admittance to the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Sarah McFann from Arlington, Tennessee, and Samantha Tilson from Littleton, Colorado, both in chemical and biological engineering, are two of 2,000 NSF Graduate Research Fellows selected from more than 13,000 applicants. The students from UA will receive financial support for graduate studies.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will award some 5,350 degrees during spring commencement Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. With this graduating class, UA will have awarded more than 254,000 degrees since its founding in 1831 as the state’s first public university. Students listed as candidates to receive degrees include:
Professors at The University of Alabama are offering a number of thought-provoking and unusual classes during UA’s May Interim session, which runs from Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 27.
The University of Alabama’s Senior Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, Crimson Tide Battalion, will hold a commissioning ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Ferguson Center Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.
The University of Alabama will hold its spring commencement exercises May 6-7 at Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus.
The Rural Medical Scholars Program at the College of Community Health Sciences will honor the graduates of its 20th class, as well as alumni of the now two-decade-old program, on Sunday, May 1, at Hotel Capstone on The University of Alabama campus. A reception for program alumni will be at 3 p.m. and will be followed by the 20th Annual Rural Scholars Convocation, where the current classes of the Rural Medical Scholars and Rural Community Health Scholars will be recognized.
The University of Alabama chapter of Order of Omega recently announced award and scholarship recipients and initiated new officers at its annual Greek awards banquet in Tuscaloosa. Order of Omega is the national honorary for fraternity and sorority members.
