UA Student Newspaper Staff Receives Awards

Members of The University of Alabama’s student-run newspaper, The Crimson White (CW), won five awards in the Best of Collegiate Design contest, announced during the National College Media Convention in Dallas Nov. 5-9.

UA Journalism Professor Receives Freedom of Expression Award

Dr. Matthew D. Bunker, Reese Phifer Professor of Journalism in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama, recently received the Franklyn S. Haiman Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Freedom of Expression for his book, “Critiquing Free Speech: First Amendment Theory and the Challenge of Interdisciplinarity.”

UA’s Public Relations Program Named One of Nation’s Best

The public relations program in the College of Communication and Information Sciences department of advertising and public relations at The University of Alabama recently received Public Relations Society of America Certification (CEPR). PRSA’s certification report called UA’s PR program “one of the most successful undergraduate programs in the country.”

UA to Host Collegiate Soccer Sport Club National Championships

The 10th annual National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Collegiate Soccer Sport Club championships will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Student Recreation Center field complex of The University of Alabama and at Sokol Park fields.

AIDS Memorial Quilt to be on Display

The Names Project Foundation AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at the Ferguson Center on The University of Alabama campus from Nov. 17- Dec. 5. It will be hung for viewing in the stairwell behind the information desk from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday.

UA Engineering Students Develop Toys for RISE Center

University of Alabama senior mechanical engineering students have designed and built ride-on toys for limited mobility children in the RISE Program. Besides giving the children toys to ride, the toys will provide these children with experience in driving electronic devices and help prepare them for electric wheelchairs sooner.
