The University of Alabama Chess Club is doing its part to checkmate hunger in West Alabama. The club will host a chess tournament t from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Ferguson Center. Participants will contribute three cans as a tournament entry fee for the Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger food drive.
The University of Alabama National Alumni Association has announced the 2016 recipients of the University’s highest honor for excellence in teaching – the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Awards.
Ainsely LeBlanc, a senior public relations major, of Cordova, Tennessee, has been elected the 2016 University of Alabama Homecoming Queen. She is sponsored by Alpha Omicron Pi.
The 2016 University of Alabama Homecoming Court was selected in a Sept. 27 student election. A total of 11,736 votes were cast.
The University of Alabama’s Outdoor Recreation Program recently brought 150 new bicycles, which will be available this fall once they’re assembled. They’ll be added to the existing fleet. Students rent the bikes monthly for $15. Rentals include a lock and, if needed, a helmet.
The University of Alabama’s 2016 Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger drive launches Saturday, Oct. 1. The drive, which benefits the West Alabama Food Bank, has collected more than 2 million pounds of food over 20 years for those in need.
The University of Alabama’s Collegiate Readership Program, which provides copies of newspapers and digital news access for use in the classroom, has undergone changes for students and faculty for the 2016-2017 school year.
In recognition of LGBTQ+ History Month, the Classroom Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and The University of Alabama Spectrum will co-host a student panel presentation for UA faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
The University of Alabama’s Homecoming Parade will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The parade will start in downtown Tuscaloosa, moving north on Greensboro Avenue and then East on University Boulevard.
The University of Alabama’s annual Homecoming celebration runs from Sunday, Sept. 25, to Saturday, Oct 1. This year’s theme is “A Legendary Legacy: Honor. Build. Live.” A parade, pep rally and Habitat for Humanity service project are planned.
