Local home sales surge in May

Len Zumpano, professor of real estate at the University of Alabama, said it’s too early to tell if May’s numbers signify a trend. He cited the typical uptick in sales during the summer. Sales in April were down 7.3 percent from March, to 315 from 340; March sales were up 19 percent from February’s 284. Even factoring in the seasonal bump, Zumpano said the higher figures for May are a positive sign. “The numbers are increasing, even though year over year they are down,” he said. “It’s a potential sign of a better spring and summer than we had last year. The market in Huntsville is certainly not contracting.”
