Doctoral Program In Health Education Ranked Seventh In National Study

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The doctoral program in health education, a joint program of The University of Alabama and The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been ranked seventh in the nation, according to a recently published study in the Journal of Health Education.

The Ph.D. in health promotion and health education is offered jointly between the department of health sciences in the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences and the School of Public Health and department of health studies at UAB.

The study findings were reported in “Ranking of Doctoral Programs of Health Education,” an article that appeared in a spring edition of the journal. The article said this was the first study ranking health education doctoral programs to ever be conducted. The study ranked each school based on faculty productivity, student achievement and institutional researches to provide institutions, departments, faculty, students and administrators with information regarding the quality of different programs in health education.

According to the article, the study’s rankings will help to provide a definite set of standards in the field of health education for doctoral programs.

Indiana University’s program was ranked as the first in the nation. Other health education doctoral programs in the top seven included the University of Texas-Houston, the University of North Carolina, the University of Illinois, the University of South Carolina and the University of Michigan.
