UA Women’s Studies Department Sponsors Brown Bag Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As part of the spring 2006 Brown Bag Lecture series in The University of Alabama department of women’s studies, two second-year master’s degree candidates will give presentations on their thesis research Wednesday, April 19 at 12:30 p.m. in 108 Manly Hall.

Student Shara Crookston will present, “Who is in the Know? A Feminist Response to 60 Years of Seventeen Magazine’s All-American Girl.” This talk will look at the messages Seventeen Magazine gives its readers about what it means to be a young woman, focusing on advice columns and advertisements.

Student Beth Robinson will discuss, “’Which Side Are You On? Solidarity between Southern Textile Women.” This talk will discuss ways that women in the Southern textile mills showed their solidarity in the workplace.
