Commissioners Baker, Sawyer and Petelos to Honor Social Work Pioneers April 7

Three top members of Gov. Don Siegelman’s cabinet are scheduled to speak at the Social Work Society’s Alabama Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday, April 7, at Indian Hills Country Club in Tuscaloosa.

Scheduled to speak at the noon luncheon are Alabama Commissioners Cathy Sawyer (Mental Health/Mental Retardation), Pam Baker (Children’s Affairs), and Tony Petelos (Human Resources).

This year’s inductees are former UA social work professor Mary Avis Todd and Dale Brantley, long-time administrator for the Sparks Center for Development and Learning Disorders in Birmingham.

Also being recognized is Lucinda Roff, dean of UA’s School of Social Work, who is returning to full-time teaching and research after a 13-year stint as dean.

The Social Work Society, an organization at UA, works with alumni and concerned citizens to support and strengthen program quality within UA’s School of Social Work.
