MFA Graduate Wegrzynowski Exhibits at UA Sarah Moody Gallery

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art on The University of Alabama campus will feature the works of master of fine arts graduate Tom Wegrzynowski in the exhibit “Blessed are the seekers of truth, may their suffering guide the world from darkness.”

The exhibition opens Thursday, June 15 and runs until July 26 in 103 Garland Hall, with a reception honoring the artist on Friday, June 16 from 6 until 8 p.m.

Wegrzynowski uses the medium of painting to introduce a cast of characters he developed during his graduate studies in the UA department of art. His work is filled with recognizable elements, but it leaves the viewer to his own story-telling.

“My work is an investigation into systems of time, religion and history, and how these systems are interpreted and reinterpreted by subsequent cultures,” Wegrzynowski said. “I have been creating my own folkloric system which combines components of history and religion.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public. A sample of Wegrzynowski’s work can be found online at http://www.saintjones.com/main.htm.

Funding support for the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art comes from the UA College of Arts & Sciences. Gallery hours for the summer are 10 a.m. – noon and 2 – 4 p.m. The gallery is located on the first floor of Garland Hall on Woods Quad in the center of campus.
