UA Students ‘Think Pink’ With Art Fair and Creative Speaker

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — In conjunction with innovative author Daniel Pink coming to campus Wednesday, Sept. 13, the Creative Campus program at The University of Alabama will be presenting a Think Pink Arts Fair on the Quad from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. that day.

Interior design, dance, music and yoga are just a few of the demonstrations that will take place at the Think Pink Arts Fair, designed to show students how departments on campus express themselves creatively.

Bama Dining will provide food on the Quad for students during the fair, with dance and music performances to be given under the dining tent to entertain students while they have lunch.

The Arts Fair is in preparation for out-of-box thinker Daniel Pink’s 6 p.m. presentation on his book “A Whole New Mind,” in the Moody Music Building concert Hall. Pink is a best-selling author and an expert on innovation, competition and the changing world of work. His latest book, “A Whole New Mind,” charts the rise of right-brain thinking in modern economies and explains the six abilities individuals and organizations must master in an outsourced and automated world.

Tickets are required, but will be available for free from the Creative Campus Box Office in 232 Ferguson Center. For more information, call 205/348-6933. Free tickets are also available at https://frcx2.ua.edu/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=UASurvey&-loadframes.

Reviewers have described Pink’s book as “an audacious and powerful work,” “a profound read,” “right on the money,” and “a miracle.” Several publications – including strategy+business, The Miami Herald, and Fast Company – named it one of the best business books of 2005. “A Whole New Mind” is being translated into 12 languages and will be published across Europe and Asia in 2006.

His articles on work, business, and technology appear in The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Slate, Fast Company and Wired, where he is a contributing editor. He also writes “The Trend Desk” column for Yahoo! Finance.

His talk at UA is co-sponsored by Creative Campus, the College of Arts & Sciences, Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, the Career Center and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

The Creative Campus, Creative Community Initiative of the University, is an unprecedented student group that focuses on broadening the scope and deepening the experience of the arts and cultural opportunities on UA’s campus and in the Tuscaloosa community.
