ANNOUNCEMENTS
The offices that handle student receivables and collections are consolidating their services. Once consolidation is complete, a new department, Student Account Services, will be responsible for the billing and collecting of student charges. Those charges will include tuition, course and college fees, meal plans, resident housing and dining dollars. Essentially, everything but books will be charged to students’ accounts and paid through Student Account Services.
Students should stay tuned to future UA Student News and emails from Student Account Services to learn how to access account bills, how to make payments and complete enrollment, and how financial aid, scholarships and third-party payments are applied to student accounts. Also, the new department’s website is expected to be operational around the end of March.
The Office of Student Conduct has relocated to 173 Mary Burke East. The main contact number (348-8234) and phone numbers for all staff members remain the same.
All locations of the University Supply Store will close Feb. 21 for system updates. Stores will reopen Feb. 22 at 8 a.m. Patrons can shop online during the closure.
Students are invited to complete the Student Experience in the Research University survey. Information from the SERU survey will be used to improve existing student instruction and services and to create new services to enhance the student experience at UA.
The University of Alabama’s Academic Advising Association invites students to nominate their academic advisers for the 2015-16 Outstanding Commitment to Advising Award. Applications for the 2016-17 cycle of the Honors College service-learning course Medicine and Community are due March 4. All upcoming sophomores, juniors and seniors who are interested in medicine and have at least 3 hours of Honors Foundations credits may apply. The due date for all applications is Friday, March 4. In addition to this application link, students may log in to myBama and access the application via the “Honors Involvement Application” link in the Honors College banner under the Academics tab.
The Office of Student Involvement is accepting applications for the Source Board of Governors and Involvement Geniuses. These leadership positions help students get involved with campus organizations and then provide those organizations with essential resources. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Use your programming knowledge and earn Service Learning Pro hours at the same time by volunteering with Girls Who Code, a nationwide program to educate young women and men in computer science. Students are invited to the State of the Black Union address, which begins at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 in 159 Russell Hall.
Higher Education Day will be held Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. on the front steps of the Alabama State House. Free lunch follows the rally. The UA Student Government Association is coordinating buses to the rally. Buses leave at 7:30 a.m. and will return around 3 p.m. Bus travelers will receive T-shirts, coffee and breakfast.
