TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Linnet Kabachia, a student at The University of Alabama, has been selected to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad during the spring 2016 academic term.

Gilman Scholars are selected by the Institute of International Education through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. Recipients receive up to $5,000 to apply toward study abroad or internship program costs, giving them the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages and economies.
Kabachia, a junior from Homewood who is majoring in accounting with a specialization in global business, will spend the semester in South Korea.
“South Korea has grown rapidly in the past decades, becoming an economic and financial inspiration to other developing countries and a strong force in the global market,” Kabachia said. “I am excited to enroll in courses that will be used as a stepping stone for my aspirations to work in the global market.”
Originally from Kenya, Kabachia hopes to one day return there and apply the skills she garners from this experience to helping Kenya realize economic growth.
“I’m excited for Linnet to receive the Gilman Scholarship and represent The University of Alabama abroad,” said Holly Henning, Education Abroad adviser at UA. “She is a very gifted and deserving student, and I look forward to seeing how much she grows as she studies abroad in South Korea.”
