UA Matters: Gifts Children Can Make for their Parents

ycka58deiChildren love to make things for their parents, especially during the holidays.

They feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in anything they make, and parents usually love whatever it is that they have worked so hard on.

The University of Alabama’s Amy Walker offers a few simple ideas that children can make for their parents this holiday season:

  • Bookmarks
  • Fill a plastic ornament with confetti, and let them decorate the outside of it
  • Pine cone ornament for the birds using peanut butter and birdseed
  • Pot Holder with their handprint
  • Utility bag with their handprint on it to create a reindeer, wreath, Santa or other figures.
  • Picture frame made from cardboard decorated with buttons, ribbon and just about anything you can find at home
  • Craft stores and the Internet are great places to look for more gift ideas children can make.

Walker is a parent resource specialist with Alabama’s Parenting Assistance Line at UA’s Child Development Resources.
