UA Sets Area Record in Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger Food Drive

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Volunteers from The University of Alabama donated some 150,414 pounds of food to the West Alabama Food Bank during the 2006 Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger Food Fight, setting a new UA record for food collection contributions.

The annual food fight centers around the Iron Bowl when students from the two rival schools compete against each other in the food drive.

This year, UA set a new record for West Alabama while Auburn took overall first place with 172,492 pounds of food collected.

At UA, winning organizations included:

First Place:
Freshman Forum – 27,858 pounds of food
Student Government Association – 13,118 pounds
Alpha Lambda Delta honorary – 12,000 pounds

Sorority:
Delta Delta Delta – 5,268 pounds

Fraternity:
Delta Kappa Epsilon – 5,285 pounds

Community Partner:
Wal-Mart – 3,300 pounds

The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food collection competition is sponsored by the UA Community Service Center and the West and East Alabama Food Banks. All donations go to the food banks to be distributed throughout the year.
