UA Museum Ghost Tour Provides Halloween Fun

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The community is invited to explore The University of Alabama’s rich history from a slightly spooky perspective during the annual “A Haunting at the Museum.”

Sponsored by UA’s Alabama Museum of Natural History, the free event is open to all ages and features guided, candlelit ghost walks around the Quad, followed by children’s activities and a scavenger hunt at the museum. The event runs 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Guests will experience some of the haunted legends that have been passed down through time while museum staff guide them through various stops, including the Quad, Gorgas Library, Gorgas House, Smith Hall and many more.

“These stories have been passed down throughout the years and always seem to find a way to stay in the conversation,” said Allie Sorlie, museum education outreach coordinator. “During ‘A Haunting at the Museum’ these stories continue to be shared, and UA’s history is kept alive.”

In addition to the guided tours, there will be fun Halloween crafts available at the Gorgas House, scavenger hunts between both museums, and mad scientist experiments at Smith Hall demonstrated by department of chemistry graduate students.

Guides and museum staff will be dressed up, and guests are encouraged to wear family-friendly costumes as well.

UA’s Alabama Museum of Natural History is in Smith Hall near the Quad at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Capstone Drive on The University of Alabama campus.
