UA’s RISE School Hosts ‘Buy for Rise’ this Weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s RISE School will host Buy for RISE Friday and Saturday.

Event attendees will have an opportunity to purchase new items from more than 75 local retailers at significant discounts – 75 percent off lowest marked prices Friday and 90 percent Saturday.

Retailers include Krush, Hudson Poole Jewelers, The Purse Man, Lily Pads & Baby Bundles, The Trunk, Woods and Water, Wagners and more. All proceeds from the event benefit the RISE School.

A preview night and silent auction will be held at the school, which is located at 600 Johnny Stallings Drive, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

The event will be catered by Hoo’s Q, Pastor’s Kitchen, Green Beverage and International Wines. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 or for $15 at the door. The event continues with free admission from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

The RISE program, a part of the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences, serves children with disabilities and their typically developing peers, from ages 8 weeks to 5 years. The children are divided by age among six classes, each with 16 students, one teacher and three assistants.

The school’s mission is the same as the University’s — teaching, service and research. The integrated preschool program not only benefits families in the community, it serves as a practicum and internship site for students from UA and other colleges.

The charity sale and silent auction is the school’s second largest fundraiser of the year. Money raised helps fund the school’s programs.
