Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.
Students should update their contact information on myBama to ensure they receive the UA Alerts messages. Students who currently receive the alerts but would prefer to be contacted differently will need to revise their contact information.
The University of Alabama will publish the Corolla for 2014-15. Content will focus on preserving the broader Alabama experience and offer students an opportunity to be in the book in ways that capture their own individual experiences on campus during the year. Everyone may submit photos for consideration. The Corolla will be distributed in July 2015 and will include events from Fall Semester 2014 through Spring Semester 2015. Students can upload photographs for consideration in the upcoming Corolla by using the ReplayIt application. Suggested themes for selfies: receiving awards during Honors Week, favorite outfits, favorite campus spots, giving back to the community, finest academic moments, studying for finals, moving out of collegiate living quarters, graduation and start of summer classes.
Gorgas Library has adjusted its hours for Support on Site. Hours and locations are Monday-Friday, 2-4 p.m., Circulation Desk on the second floor; and Monday-Thursday, 7:15-9:15 p.m., Information Desk on the first floor. Help is available for technology issues, including logins, connecting to the Wi-Fi, printing, basic software problems, and assistance with Mac OSX or iOS, Windows 7 and Android.
University Libraries now offers ZoomText 10 software that assists those with low vision to use a computer. Users can adjust screen magnification levels, change color schemes and contrast, and have on-screen content read to them. The software is available on all Dell desktops in Bruno, Gorgas, Hoole, McLure and Rodgers libraries.
