‘Romeo and Juliet’ at UA’s Gallaway Theatre Feb. 27 – March 4

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance presents “Romeo and Juliet,” one of Shakespeare’s most famous works, Feb. 27-March 4 in the Marian Gallaway Theatre in the UA theatre district.

Originally produced by UA in the Gallaway Theatre in 1971, this production is part of the celebration of the Gallaway’s 50th anniversary, revisiting classics of the theatre’s past, including the upcoming production of “Blithe Spirit” and the recent productions of “Our Town” and “Threepenny Opera.”

The department of theatre and dance invite alumni to attend the Saturday evening performance on March 3 at 7:30 p.m. where they can enjoy a private post-show reception in the Johnson Room and mingle with the current student actors and artists. Details are available online at www.as.ua.edu/theatre.

During the run of “Romeo and Juliet,” and in conjunction with the upcoming scholarship campaign, the department will be holding a date auction entitled, “Couples and Couplets: A Shakespeare Date Auction benefiting the UA Theatre and Dance Scholarship Campaign.”

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for UA faculty, staff, and seniors, $8 for students, and group rates are available for parties of 10 or more. They can be purchased at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall noon – 5 p.m., or by calling 205/348-3400.

The department of theatre and dance is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
