ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Office of Information Technology advises employees, including students, to beware of phishing scams that are trying to steal pay check information through emails.
Also, according to the FBI, college students across the United States have been targeted to participate in work-from-home scams. Students have been receiving e-mails to their school accounts recruiting them for payroll and/or human resource positions with fictitious companies. The “position” simply requires the student to provide his/her bank account number to receive a deposit and then transfer a portion of the funds to another bank account. Participating in the scam is a crime and could lead to the student’s bank account being closed due to fraudulent activity or federal charges.
For more information on scam alerts and cyber security, visit the UA Office of Information Technology security alerts Web page at http://oit.ua.edu/oit/security/cyber-safety/.
A broad network-service outage will occur on Sunday, Jan. 25, while the Office of Information Technology replaces the campus’s main data-center firewalls. All network services may experience downtime between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Data-center-server resources will not be available. A temporary, limited-function ua.edu website will be active during the time period to allow students to access Blackboard Learn.
