‘Tide Together: Celebrating the Capstone Spirit’ Theme of UA’s 2014 Homecoming

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s annual Homecoming celebration will run from Sunday, Nov. 16, to Saturday, Nov. 22.

This year’s theme is “Tide Together: Celebrating the Capstone Spirit.”

The highlight of Homecoming Week will be the UA football game against Western Carolina University at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. UA will crown the 2014 Homecoming Queen during halftime, and the Student Government Association Homecoming Committee will award the traditional Spirit Cup to the student group that receives the most spirit points during Homecoming Week.

Highlights include the annual pep rally and bonfire and the Homecoming Parade. The bonfire and pep rally will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, on the UA Quad. At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, the Homecoming Parade will begin in downtown Tuscaloosa and move eastward along University Boulevard through the UA campus.

All Alabama alumni, friends and fans are invited to attend Tailgatin’ with the Tide BBQ Under the Big Top brunch on the Quad three hours before kickoff. Tickets are $15 each and may be bought in advance at http://alumni.ua.edu/blog/2014/10/16/homecoming-2014/.

The week’s festivities will begin Sunday, Nov. 16 and includes the annual Roll Tide Run. Registration and check-in will be at the rear of Gorgas Library at 3 p.m., and the race will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Capstone Drive on the UA campus.

The Crimson Kickoff Powder Puff Football Competition, benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at UA Recreation Fields.

Paint the Town Red material pickup will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17. Students may show their UA school spirit across Tuscaloosa. Students may pick up materials at the Ferguson Center SGA Office. Judging will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.

Homecoming Queen Elections will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. A basketball tournament starts at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Student Recreation Center. In addition, the LifeSouth Blood Drive will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 behind Gorgas Library or in room 301 of the Ferguson Center.

The CanFormation event and judging will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. The Choreography Competition will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 in Coleman Coliseum. And, the National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in Coleman Coliseum. For event tickets, click here.
