Black Warrior Film Festival Seeks Submissions for Event at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Black Warrior Film Festival is accepting submissions for its second annual event April 11-13 at The University of Alabama.

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28.

Any undergraduate or graduate students who attend a college or university in the Southeast are encouraged to submit their films. Colleges in the following states are eligible: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Texas or Virginia.

UA student Danny Ryan, co-director of the festival and a West Islip, New York native, said he believes the process will help create a greater appreciation for hard-working student filmmakers who wish to submit their work.

“This expansion with our submissions process will potentially make the UA and Tuscaloosa communities a center for student films,” Ryan said. “It will highlight Southern filming-making and  recognize the talent we have here.”

Festival submissions may include music videos, experimental films, narrative films, which must be under 30 minutes, and documentaries, which must be under 40 minutes.

For more information on submissions, visit www.blackwarriorfilmfest.com/submit; for questions, email blackwarriorfilmfestival@gmail.com.

The Black Warrior Film Festival is a competitive showcase of student films from universities across the South. The focus of the festival is to celebrate student-made films and independent projects giving young filmmakers a chance to have their work viewed by the University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa communities.

The aim is to create a film festival environment where student filmmakers not only screen films, but meet and learn from industry professionals, network with other filmmakers, and celebrate film.
