Bentley, Strange to announce their office plans
Tuscaloosa News – May 13
…David Lanoue, chairman of the political science department at the University of Alabama, said the 2010 governor’s race could be affected by the success or failure of the first two years of President Barack Obama’s term. “If the country seems to be in recovery, that will help the (state) Democrat nominee,” Lanoue said. On the other hand, a sour state economy next year could hurt the Republican seeking to succeed Riley, who might get the blame. “So far the governor has not been held accountable for the downturn, which is not saying he deserves to be, but typically when times are bad we hold our state and national leaders accountable,” Lanoue said. “Right now I think the general sense is Gov. Riley has done a good job in office and Republicans will benefit from their association to him,” Lanoue said. “You have Obama’s success or lack of it reflecting on Democrats at the federal level and Riley’s success or lack of it reflecting at the state level.”
