Conference to focus on children’s needs

…The third annual children’s conference, ‘Doing What Matters for Tuscaloosa’s Children,’ is intended to address those needs. The conference will be held Wednesday at the Bryant Conference Center… Kristy Brown, a child development specialist who has helped coordinate the conference each year. Brown is with Child Development Resources at the University of Alabama and is former coordinator of Tuscaloosa’s Promise, one of the advocacy groups hosting the conference. Others are Challenge 21 and the Tuscaloosa Children’s Policy Council…

UA seeks young writers

The University of Alabama is seeking high school students in grades 9-12 who are interested in participating in an after-school intensive creative writing program…The teachers will be published writers who are graduate students in UA’s master of arts program and will lead a 12-week exploration of creative writing under the director of poet and professor Robin Behn…The program will meet Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Feb. 4 through April 29 in 301 Morgan Hall at UA. There is no participation fee….
