TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A group of talented students in The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance recently participated in the Region IV Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Greensboro, N.C., receiving awards in several events.
The students submitted entries into the competition in areas including costumes, sets, props and makeup.
UA junior Stesha Ross received second place in the technical design and craft competition for the chandelier she built for characters to swing from in “The Wild Party.”
Ross, a theater major from New Market, conducted research to help design and construct the close replica of a historically accurate chandelier as seen in the fall production of “The Wild Party,” Andrew Lippa’s musical set during the Roaring ’20s.
Murdock Lucas, of Greenville, S.C., also received an honorable mention for set design for “The Playboy of the Western World.”
Other UA students in the competition included Emma Cullimore of Columbia, Mo., and Bonnie Decker of Mobile.
