Week of Welcome Introduces UA Students to Campus Life

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Ferguson Center’s Division of Student Affairs invites University of Alabama students to participate in the annual Week of Welcome from Friday, Aug. 17 – Thursday, Aug. 30.

WOW is a two-week series of more than 50 events and activities, each designed to help first-year and transfer students acclimate to academic and student life at UA.

Ferguson Center staff will offer a wide variety of services, collaborative programming and leisure-time activities that embody UA’s overall academic, research and service mission while enhancing each student’s learning experience.

“We have events geared toward first-generation students, transfer students, out-of-state and international students, as well as events based on interests such as painting, health, recreation, athletics, music, volunteerism and more,” said Megan Barnes, a planning committee member and a graduate student from Enterprise.

“We hope all students will meet new people and discover their interests at WOW events this year,” she said.

WOW will kick off with “An Evening by the River” Friday, Aug. 17, offering students and their families a time to relax at the end of move-in day by enjoying the scenic river view from the pavilion of the Cypress Inn restaurant.

Other events include a free movie on the plaza, a ropes course challenge, a welcome-back breakfast and do-it-yourself tips for students interested in painting canvases for their rooms.
