Long-lost plaque returned to UA

…a long-lost University of Alabama artifact — a 200-pound bronze plaque predating World War II — is back on campus in the Paul W. Bryant Museum. The plaque, which commemorates UA’s first football and baseball teams, was originally bolted to an inside wall of the building now known as Foster Auditorium at its dedication in 1939…“We knew this plaque existed for some time, but we didn’t know what happened to it and really didn’t ever think we would see it,” Taylor Watson, curator of the Bryant Museum, said Tuesday. “We have one book that was written in 1948 about Alabama sports and there was a single mention of the plaque…The recovery of the plaque coincides with the recently completed extensive renovation of Foster Auditorium, which is now home to the UA women’s basketball and volleyball teams…
